Never purchase a fish with a flawed physical structure.

Don't be too concerned with the pattern of the fish when you buy it. Remember that patterns change.

If you notice a problem with your Koi always check the water parameters before embarking on any treatment

Koi keeping is all about keeping good water.

If you buy baby Koi with fully developed or "finished" patterns they have only one way to go and that's downhill.

The first thing to look for when buying Koi to grow on is quality! if it doesn't have quality the pattern, conformation etc. are irrelevant.

Invest in a microscope, it may seem expensive but it will save you money and heartache in the long run.

Always quarantine new Koi purchases and don't introduce Koi from more than one source at the same time.
